"Over the last year, it has been revealed that Eskom has been supplying electricity to BHP Billiton at rates below cost, which means that South African taxpayers have been subsidising one of the world’s biggest and most profitable mining companies. This contract was concluded at a time when Eskom had so much surplus generation capacity that it was desperately looking for opportunities to sell that surplus."
