Eskom to lower solar water heater rebate at the end of April
"State-owned power utility Eskom has confirmed that it would reduce the rebate level on its solar water heater (SWH) programme, which falls within energy efficiency initiatives in the Integrated Demand Management (IDM) unit.
SWH supplier Selected Energy, which installs Solahart products, on Wednesday urged potential SWH customers to place orders for a system before the current favourable rebate was lowered by the end of April.
“Only solar water heaters that have been installed before April 29, 2011 - with valid and complete claims that must be received by May 13, 2011 - will qualify for the old rebate,” said Selected Energy.
The company further explained that, depending on the SWH system, the reduction would be as much as R5 000 or R6 000." More here, on Engineering News

Biogas project launched to assist with power supply in rural SA
"In an effort to improve the lives of people living in rural South Africa, Trade plus Aid (TPA) on Monday launched the South African arm of Swiss biogas technology solutions company Acrona.
Acrona South Africa, in which TPA has a 50% vested interest, will manufacture micro gas turbines and other related products, with its first project being the TPA agricultural biogas project, which would be used to implement domestic biogas projects throughout the impoverished rural areas of South Africa." Nedbank opens Africa’s first wind-powered branch
"Wind-powered banking has taken off in Du Noon in the Western Cape, as green banking giant Nedbank launched Africa’s first partially wind-energy powered bank branch, with a price tag “under R200 000”.
The facility makes use of a locally developed Kestrel e300i 1kW turbine, which is expected to reduce Eskom power consumption in the branch by 35%, as it produces an average of 7,8 kWh of wind energy a day." More here, on Engineering News
